Suggestions for revision or reasons for rejection

I appreciate the changes made by the authors. At this stage, I have only a few minor comments which might be considered before the publication:

1) Introduction: In my opinion, it is still possible to express more clearly the novelty and significance of the contribution in the Introduction section. I would say that the message from the Introduction may be that there are different spatial and temporal filters available for MODIS cloud reduction. An alternative also exists - it is a snowline method. Each of these approaches have some advantages and limitations (please provide some more text indicating the advantages and limitations of the existing approaches), so the new contribution of this study is to demonstrate that the combination of such approaches has some additional benefits in comparison to individual methods. I would also suggest to highlight more the testing of a new methodology for validation of such sequential approaches.

2) I appreciate the changes in the structure (moving Methods ahead of Data). Please consider also to move the paragraphs about MODIS and MODIS processing to the Data section. The proposed methodology is potentially applicable also by using other satellite products, so I would prefer to present the methodology first and data (including MODIS processing) after it.

3) p.20 "The higher percentages found in the Aqua images ...". Please note, that there are also some differences in snow cover mapping algorithms for Terra and Aqua (caused by some sensor malfunctioning in Aqua) that may cause such differences.

4) I would suggest to rename the section 5 to Discussion and conclusions.

5) Tables: Please consider to use a consistent description of Terra and Aqua products. I would prefer to use either Terra, Aqua or MOD10A1, MYD10A1. Eventually some Tables (i.e. 4 and 5) can be merged.

6) Figures: Please consider to remove axes labels (coordinates) in Figure 6. I'm also wondering why not to use the same years in Figures 8 and 9. And I would suggest to use the space more efficiently (make the maps larger) in Figures 10 and 11.
